      Project Overview
Lithic Industries successfully treated a remote section of road in Northern British Columbia with a topical application of T-PRO® polymer soil stabilization. Designed for dust control and wear-course stabilization, this project delivered lasting performance where traditional methods had consistently fallen short.

      Project Objectives
The primary goals were to reduce fines migration from the compacted base, minimize maintenance and resurfacing required to repair potholes, decrease re-graveling caused by material loss, and significantly lower fugitive dust emissions in a wet, remote northern climate.

      The Challenge
Previous maintenance practices relied on calcium chloride and magnesium chloride for surface stabilization and dust suppression. In Northern British Columbia’s wet climate, these water-soluble chlorides created serious problems: slick slippery surfaces during rain, washout of fines, rutting, and accelerated loss of road material. The result was higher maintenance costs, frequent re-graveling, and ongoing safety and environmental concerns.

      The Polymer Soil Stabilization Solution
Lithic Industries applied a targeted T-PRO® polymer soil stabilization approach using the existing in-situ materials. The road surface was graded and moisture-conditioned, then treated with a topical polymer seal coat that created a stable, dust-free, and water-resistant wearing course. Unlike chlorides, T-PRO® is non-water-soluble and remains effective even after heavy rain events.

      Proven Results
The T-PRO® treatment delivered immediate and measurable benefits:

      - Pronounced increase in road density and significantly improved ride quality
      - Markedly less surface degradation compared to adjacent chloride-treated sections
      - Zero maintenance required following a heavy rain event that occurred shortly after construction
      - Reduced fines migration, pothole repairs, and re-graveling needs
      - Significant reduction in fugitive dust emissions
      - Superior long-term performance in wet northern conditions

      Application Details

      - Equipment Used: Grader, Water Truck with Spray Bar, Smooth Drum Roller
      - Application Method: Topical polymer seal coat with in-situ stabilization
      - Coverage Rate: 130 ft² per gallon (initial application)

      Maintenance Requirements
      Maintenance is simple and economical:

      - Remove any loose material from the surface
      - Apply a light topical re-coat of T-PRO® at 150–180 ft² per gallon as needed

Why Road Agencies Choose T-PRO® Over Traditional Chlorides
This project demonstrates how modern polymer soil stabilization provides reliable, low-maintenance dust control and road performance in challenging wet climates. It is an ideal solution for municipalities and road agencies seeking to replace water-soluble chlorides with a longer-lasting, safer, and more environmentally responsible alternative.

T-PRO® is a proven, carbon-neutral polymer soil stabilization technology backed by Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) validation. It consistently delivers strong, long-term results using in-situ materials while outperforming traditional methods in wet conditions.
